Flood Assistance

The area of Eastern Europe that covers Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania is known to be prone to seasonal floods, usually recurring in early Spring and/or mid-Summer. This year, besides Romania, the seasonal floods have also hit Eastern Slovakia, inflicting high-degree damage to 227 towns, villages, and settlements. According to the government information sources, some 4104 houses were destroyed and 1175 persons were evacuated. One casualty was reported.

ACT International has already responded to the floods in Romania. This appeal is issued to render post-crisis assistance to the affected communities in Slovakia and help local population get back on their feet.

The emergency counter-flood program will be implemented by ACT member Ecumenical Council of Churches in Slovakia (ECCS) partnering with Evangelical Diaconia (ED). The program comprises several components of the standard counter-flood package, including the following:

  • distribution of reconstruction kits
  • distribution of beds, beddings
  • distribution of supplementary food
  • provision of furniture for a damaged community building
