This revision deals with the ACT member Lutheran World Service (LWS) India programme of the original appeal issued 9 April 2003. The first revision issued on 8 September 2003 dealt with the CASA follow up programme. For further information please consult those documents.

The current follow up programme was prepared in response to the still existing needs, taking into account the findings from the external Evaluation of ASIN11 GERP appeal. The evaluation report recommended an extended intervention to sustain the development initiative carried out during the rehabilitation phase of the project. Furthermore, they identified the prevailing prolonged drought situation in the state which could not be given much attention under the ASIN11 project.

The ASIN11 appeal was over subscribed and not all funds could be utilised during implementation. LWSI at first prepared a limited follow up programme but would like to extend its interventions in Gujarat after further assessment of needs.

Under this revision LWS India plans to construct 35 additional earthquake proof houses for villagers who were not included under the ASIN11 intervention. Further follow up assistance is being proposed for the riot affected area. Under appeal ASIN22 the Riot Relief Project has been implemented as a response to the major communal riot that broke out in the state in 2002. At the end of this intervention, it was realised that more assistance was needed in one of the areas, where LWSI had provided support with housing material assistance.

Many requests have come from other places within Gujarat for support to drought victims. After careful assessment and analysis, LWSI wishes also to include the provision of some essential support to these drought prone areas. The districts of Sabarkanta and Banaskantha have been selected for this additional intervention.

With the additional interventions under this revision the completion date has also been revised.

Please note: ACT CO is not appealing for additional funds, but is in the process of requesting approval for the transfer of unspent funds from ASIN11.
