The response to this appeal has been extremely poor, to the extent that our members could not provide very meaningful assistance to the targeted people in the respective areas of operations. As such, after some consultative meetings with their partners, Norwegian Church Aid - Kenya (NCA), and Church World Service – Kenya (CWS) as the responsible co-ordinating agencies to the response, agreed to revise the appeal. Overall, the appeal has only received 7.5% of the target of $1,040, 425.

The revised appeal now focuses on helping the most vulnerable families with agriculture seeds and tools and capacity building initiatives for church workers involved in emergency work. In terms of food, non food items and medicines the Kenyan government, through UN agencies and other international organisations, were able to provide sufficient assistance. However, NCCK member churches carried out an assessment in the month of July and identified people that still required relief assistance. The appeal therefore, has still components to provide relief food and non food items to the identified vulnerable people. Due to decreased activities however, the appeal has been reduced from 8 months to 6 months which means the completion date of the appeal will now be 31 October, 2003 instead of December, 2003. The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has however, not revised their part of the appeal and therefore, their programs will run up to the end of the year.
