The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) has revised their programs in the appeal at the same time requesting for an extension to 31 December 2003. The main reason for this request is the prevailing emergency situation in Oriental Province. It is felt that the low assurance levels for the appeal when issued in March 2002 were mainly due to the previous concentration of ACT funds to assist the Goma Volcano Emergency (AFRW-21 issued in January and AFDC-21 issued in February) and the delay in issuing this appeal (March 2002) which affected the option to access back donor funding.

LWF also requests the extension to benefit from its application to ECHO, through FCA to fund the nutrition section and part of the food security sector of LWF’s component of the appeal. The request for the extension has so far been approved by most of the donors to the appeal. Extensions requests from Christian Aid and BOAD had been requested separately and approved. This revision therefore, only affects the programs of the LWF/WS.
